Song Improvisation for Beginner ... and the Terrified
|
| Description
: |
Mendocino Stories and Music Series will present a workshop on October 20, led by Joshua Brody - “SONG IMPROVISATION FOR BEGINNERS ... AND THE TERRIFIED! Joshua has been teaching song improvisation for over thirty years. The workshop will be held at the Hill House of Mendocino, from 1 – 4PM.
Want to sing? Think you can't? Or do you just want to learn another way to make music? Making up songs provides an excellent end-run around the whole notion of singing a song "right" or "wrong" -- when you're making it up, the way you're singing it is the only way it could possibly go! Starting with the very basics — breathing, ear training, vocal production — students are led gradually and painlessly through all the elements that go into making a song, culminating in solos, duets, group numbers, even opera!
Joshua Raoul Brody is music director for San Francisco's BATS Improv and accompanies innumerable other improv groups (including the Hit & Run Theater comedy shows on October 19 & 20). He is also an accomplished composer, sound designer for theater and multimedia, and accompanist for performers ranging from Robin Williams to Lily Tomlin, Tom Waits to Florence Henderson to Pee-Wee Herman and beyond.
Advance reservation required. Cost of the 3-hour workshop is $30. For more information about the shows and the workshop call Pattie at 707-937-1732 or www.mendocinostories.com/events.html
