Juriaan Blok’s work in his "New Perspectives in Aqueous Media" exhibition reflects his interest in aqueous media, especially India ink. Experimenting with traditional media on non-traditional surfaces, using new application techniques and drawing into the negative space has provided Juriaan with new methods for expressing his love for life on the North Coast.

Be the paddler that everyone admires as he(she) gracefully carves down the river. In this 3 day adventure, learn to be the paddler that effortlessly catches every eddy and surfs every wave grinning from ear to ear and finishing the run fresh and ready to run it again. • 11:00 am : Gray Whale Programs at MacKerricher State Park [details]
Knowledgeable docents will talk about the annual gray whale migration along the Mendocino coast. Binoculars provided. Meet at the Visitor Center by the main entrance. All programs begin at 11:00 a.m.;weekends through March 17th.
• 1:00 pm -4:00 pm : Gualala Arts Winternationals Pinewood Derby [details]
Youth and those young at heart will be able to design and build their very own custom car to race. Classifications include 8 and under, 9 to 12, 13 to 18, and 18 years and older for racing. There will be racing trophies for First and Second place for each class presented at the award ceremony immediately following the race, along with a Best Time Overall trophy. There will also be a Vintage class that is open to racers of any age, but cars must have been built prior to 2013. Vintage class will not be eligible for the Best Time Overall trophy.

• 7:30 pm -10:30 pm : Steven Bates Trio - Electric Dance Party [details]
Come out to the Hill House of Mendocino on Saturday, January 19, when Mendocino Stories & Music Series presents Steven Bates Electric Dance Party. Rock and roll dance music starts at 7:30PM at the Hill House of Mendocino. The Trio, featuring Steven Bates on guitar and vocals, will be doing a combination of Steven’s original music and rock and roll dance tunes.  A Fort Bragg native, Bates started playing music at school dances by age 13. Dynamic drummer Claudia Paige “knows how to add passion to her music.” Powerful and unique with 25 years of live performance experience, Claudia has been part of many local collaborations. Multi-talented musician Jon Faurot joins the band on bass. Doors open at 6:00 PM for dinner menu and full bar. Reserved table seating $20, general admission $15 at the door.
