Local musicians come together in a benefit ... Pattie Jam Submitted by Debbie L. Holmer Local musician Pattie DeMatteo has been making music on the Mendocino Coast since 1975. She started out singing in Grant Rudolph’s Mendocino Chorus and the Presbyterian Church choir under Ann Heider in the ‘70s and has been singing in various other configurations ever since. She began playing guitar in her 50’s and then picked up the ukulele in 2010. Six years ago, Pattie Sanger and James Maxwell created Mendocino Stories & Music Series, inspired by her friend Bonnie Sanger. Pattie was diagnosed with cancer in March of this year, with her treatments starting in May. Recovery has taken much more time and energy than she had anticipated. On Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Hill House of Mendocino, local musicians will join together in a benefit for Mendocino Stories and Music Series producer Pattie DeMatteo, to help defray the cost of her illness. Performing that night with the house band - Johnny Bush, Phil Dunn and Jamie Gilliam - are many special guests including Lenny Laks, Richard Fienbop, Sue Sisk, Marcus McCallen, Denny Lunsford, Tommy Brown, Steven Bates, and more. Les Tarr will MC and join in on a few tunes. Lenny Laks wrote, “Mendocino is a community that needs lots of music ... music makes us come together and groove. And like our theater, it is the glue that makes us different. Providing this music is a lot of work and is always overlooked. Pattie does this ... so we can say thanks for the hard work on the nights when there are four people in the house, and she works for nuthin’.” Doors open at 6:30PM, music at 7:30PM. Dinner menu and full bar. $20 suggested donation at the door. $25 per person for reserved table seating. The Mendocino Stories retail shop will be open with CDs, books and Ukulele Fever T-shirts.
