The Smokin' Mirrors
[details]
- Mendocino Stories & Music Series presents The Smokin’ Mirrors’ reflection of blues, fermenting soul, rock, R&B, and funk on Friday, July 2. Kick off your holiday weekend with a boogie at the Hill House inn of Mendocino. Music starts at 7:30PM.
The group formed after a conversation between Amanda Gray and Tommy Brown. Sean Connolly was called in to play keyboards, rejoining Tommy and Peter White, who were with The Brown Brothers Blues Band. Jon Faurot, playing bass, has recently joined, to the band’s delight.
Tom Brown, AKA Clawfoot Tubbs, has been singing and playing guitar in boogie bands on the Mendocino coast for over 30 years. Tom wears his emotions right there on his guitar neck. His slide and fretted solo work is smoky, swampy and downright gut-bucket.
Lifelong singer of many musical styles, Amanda Gray, comes from a musical family, transplanted to Mendocino from Humboldt County. Expect an honest delivery from her clear, sweet tone. Sean Connolly plays, “smokin’” keyboards and adds vocals, leaning into boogie-woogie, stride or New Orleans-style Street beats. He’s intense and focused, soloing and blending nicely.
Thank goodness Indiana birthed Jon Faurot and sent him to the left coast! Jon brings on major music, having played with many of the greats, and adds depth in experience to the party. Peter White, long-term drum student, is a practitioner of the strong back beat. He’s all about feel and supporting the song. Numerous albums, bands, stages - and other combustible acts.
All ages are welcome! Doors open at 6:30 PM for bistro menu and libations. Sliding scale $10-$15. Call Pattie at 937-1732 or www.mendocinostories.com/events.
