ROBERT REDFORD/MERYL STREEP Narrate A FIERCE GREEN FIRE: Battle for a Living Planet
[details]
- MENDOCINO FILM FESTIVAL PRESENTS Four Screenings of A FIERCE GREEN FIRE –
This documentary explores grassroots and global activism spanning fifty years, from conservation to climate change, with vivid stories of people fighting and succeeding against enormous odds.
From halting dams in the Grand Canyon to battling 20,000 tons of toxic waste at Love Canal, from Greenpeace saving whales to Chico Mendes and the rubber-tappers saving the Amazon, FROM CLIMATE CHANGE TO THE PROMISE OF TRANSFORMING OUR CIVILIZATION.
If the early environmentalists hadn’t opened the government’s eyes to the atrocities being wreaked on Mother Nature and the inhabitants of our planet, would we be enjoying our redwood forests, drinking clean water, and relishing the sight of grey whales spy-hopping along our coast?
A FIERCE GREEN FIRE is the consummate nod of appreciation to all the do-gooders, tree-huggers, environmentalists, and global-warming activists who believe saving our planet is a noble endeavor and worth the fight.
A FIERCE GREEN FIRE was honored as an Official Selection of the 2012 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL, despite it being an early cut of the film. We are fortunate to be one of the first festivals to screen the final cut, hot out of the editing suite.
Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, Isabelle Allende, Van Jones and Ashley Judd narrate this important film.
“BRILLIANT. Should be assigned viewing for all of us, especially those political leaders currently manning the helm of spaceship earth.”
– Jay Meehan, Park Record
IMPORTANT NOTE: Oscar-nominated Director/Producer Mark Kitchell will appear in person at all four coastal screenings: Friday, November 9 at 7 p.m. Matheson Performing Arts Center at Mendocino High School; Saturday, November 10 at 7 p.m. also at Matheson; Saturday, November 10 at 11 a.m. Coast Cinemas in Fort Bragg; Sunday, November 11 at 3 p.m. Arena Theater, Point Arena
ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE: Mendocino Film Festival will donate a portion of the proceeds from the Matheson screenings to the Mendocino High School Media Lab.

Tracy Grammer
[details]
- The Mendocino Stories and Music Series proudly presents American folk singer Tracy Grammer on Saturday, November 10. Tracy, a Red House Records recording artist is known for her work as half of the folk duo Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, and for the solo career that she has continued since Carter's death. The concert will begin at 7:30PM at the Hill House Inn, 10701 Palette Dr, Mendocino.
Tracy released three albums with Dave Carter during his lifetime, at first doing instrumental work and providing backing vocals, and then, by their last album together, singing lead vocals on half of the tracks. Two albums by the duo have been released following Carter's death. She has also released three solo recordings, some of which have included previously unreleased songs by Carter.
Born in Homestead, Florida, Grammer was raised in Southern California and began her musical journey on a borrowed violin at the age of 9. She came from a musical family. Her father, Jim Grammer, played acoustic, electric, and lap steel guitars. Distant relation Leo Fortin played violin and was best known for playing double-trumpets in Lawrence Welk's orchestra.
Following Dave Carter's death in 2002, Tracy Grammer made the decision to play solo at several of the dates that they had scheduled, most notably an engagement at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Taking into account Carter's expressed wish that eventually she would sing all of the songs, she continued playing Carter's music. She has continued to tour solo, and has released three solo albums. The first, The Verdant Mile, is an EP containing her first original composition, the title track, a eulogy for Carter.
Dinner menu served prior to the show, full bar. Doors open at 6:00PM. Tickets at Brown Paper Tickets - $20 Premium Theater Seating, $15 General Admission, Table for 4 @ $100, Table for 2 @ $50.
